General Information

A permit is required for installation of both above-ground and in-ground swimming pools.

It is important that you also contact the Building Department for updates that may have been made to swimming pool requirements.

Above-Ground Permit: $100

In-Ground Permit: $300

When applying for a swimming pool permit, a plat of survey is needed to show where the pool will be located.

Attach a brochure with a picture of the pool and filter you are installing or having installed. You must have either a 5 foot high fence around your yard or fencing around the pool.

Section 8.15 - Swimming Pool Regulations
From Zoning Ordinance Adopted October 24, 2006

The following regulations shall apply to the construction and operation of swimming pools:

  • a. All owners of private swimming pools shall enclose said pool or the entire lot where said pool is located, with a permanent wall or fence of a minimum height of five (5) feet in such a manner as to prevent uncontrolled access by children from public areas or from adjacent lots. If a free-standing fence is not being placed in the ground, an enclosure with a gate shall be attached to the ledge of the pool wall and the top of such enclosure shall be a minimum of twenty-four (24) inches in height above the highest ledge of the swimming pool.
  • b. Gates shall be equipped with self-closing and self-latching devices designed to keep, and capable of keeping, such gate securely closed at all times when not in actual use.
  • c.  All electrical devices used or connected to all pools must be installed and grounded in accordance with the standards set forth in the most currently adopted edition of the National Electric Code adopted by the Village.
  • d.  No person shall erect a private above-ground swimming pool on or within ten (10) feet of a septic absorption field. No person shall erect a private in-ground swimming pool on or within twenty-five (25) feet of a septic absorption field.
  • e.  Swimming pools shall be set back from every property line at least ten (10) feet and shall not be located in the front yard or in any easement.
  • f.  A temporary fence shall be erected during excavation and construction of the swimming pool.
